AGM 2020

Postby Fergal.Staples1 » Sat Dec 07, 2019 9:07 pm

Hey guys and girls,

The AGM will be held on the 20th of January (the second Monday of the semester). Time and location tbc, but probably around 7-8.

For anyone that is wondering why an AGM post is being published in December, remember that the "Hold the AGM in January instead of April each year" motion was passed last year.

All committee positions are up for grabs, just reply to this thread with the position of your choice.
Nominations for captain, safety and training officer must be submitted before hand, they cannot be accepted on the night.
Those going for captain, safety and training must give a short speech on the night and answer questions.
You can nominate yourself for more than one position, for those that need reminding these are:

Captain -
GMIT Captain -
Safety Officer -
Training Officer -
Equipment officer -
Treasurer -
Secretary -
Public Relations Officer -
First Year Rep -

If you are wondering if you are eligible for a committee position:
"Students on placement/working abroad cannot act on committee"
"Students on placement/working within the country can act on the committee"

For a description of committee position responsibilities, this yet to be updated post will give you the details (http://www.nuigkc.com/committee). Also feel free to ask a current or past member.

Motions can also be voted on at the AGM, if you want to put forward any motions that you think will aid the betterment of the club or just want to see if they'll get passed, reply to this thread down below and I shall add them at a later date.

Motions:
1. Flatwater freestyle to be permitted in club boats after dark, with the following caveats:

Users must stay in illuminated areas (between O'Shaughnessy Bridge and upstream end of slip).

Peer paddlers must have a level 3, to reduce the risk of swims, which could result in drifting into the dark areas, unless a level 4 paddler is present (then standard ratios apply).

Other rules apply as normal (no less than three paddlers etc)

Safety Officers approval must be obtained before the commencement of the session - PASSED

2. SUGGESTION Create a beginner level document that introduces core kayaking gear/equipment with images, specifically for English Second Language (ESL) students

Nominations:
Michael lane - Secretary
Ben Nolke - Equipments
James Robertson - Safety
Joe O'Tuairisg - FYR

New Committee
Captain - N/A, Fergal until May
Captain GMIT - Aleksei
Safety - James Robertson
Training - N/A
Equipments - Ben Nolke
PRO - Finnian

Guess I'll get this party started :wasntme:

Motion: flatwater freestyle to be permitted in club boats after dark, with the following caveats:

Users must stay in illuminated areas (between O'Shaughnessy Bridge and upstream end of slip).

Peer paddlers must have a level 3, to reduce the risk of swims, which could result in drifting into the dark areas, unless a level 4 paddler is present (then standard ratios apply).

Other rules apply as normal (no less than three paddlers etc).

The idea behind this is that I'd like to do more flatwater coaching but don't have the chance during the week after work. Interested to hear thoughts on this.
