Anyone kayaked the Shannon?

Postby higgins2510 » Sat Jun 27, 2015 8:20 am

I've heard of a few people going on long-distance toury type paddles down the Shannon through the years, but can't remember the craic with it. I'm specifically interested in the stretch from Carrick-On-Shannon to Portumna - how long it will take, is there any hazards associated with it.

I think James, Pumpkin/Mint's old housemate, has done a few sections (possibly all?) of the Shannon. He's not in Galway this summer but I'm sure the lads could put ya in touch with him!

most info is up here http://www.iwai.ie/nav/shannon.html

You could easily do 50 - 80 km a day depending on fitness
